The Bandarban Local Govt. Council (now Hill District Council) was Formed by the Bandarban Local Govt. Council Ordinance, 1989 (Act 21 of 1989). Some amendments were made by the Act 11 of 1998 & 2014.The main objective of the creation of Hill District Council was to develop the district in all aspect as well as to save the cultural heritage and ensuring development for the backward tribal and other people. BHDC provides services to their door steps. In 1989, the very first time the Council was formed by the direct election but after the expiry of that Council no further election was held. Present council is an interim and Government nominated council. It consist one Chairperson and fourteen councilors. Current interim council has taken the charge on 29 March 2015.
